Spotlight On: Bonnie Sprague

Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into our talented cast and crew of Nine. Get to know Bonnie Sprague who is in our Ensemble!

Introduce Yourself to Our Audience:

Bonnie Rae Sprague (Diana) – been doing community theatre for about 40 years.

Why did you want to be involved in this production?

Absolutely adore Federico Fellini – His films intrigued me, as a hippie child of the 60’s I could totally relate to what was going on in his mind.

How do you prepare for a new role or character, and what techniques do you use?

Preparing for a role, I go back in a time machine to help me relate to happy memories from my past.

What do you love about your character?

I am a bit older than most of the cast members, but I am taking on the dance choreography, a challenge for a senior who will on occasion admit to my exact age…….younger than Cher and about 35+ older than Beyonce’.

Who do you look up to (as an actor/director/etc.)?

Sutton Foster is an actress who constantly amazes me with her incredible performances and ability to bring my favorite characters to life on stage! She’s not just an inspiration to me but to all those who witness her talent. I’ve had the privilege of seeing her twice on Broadway, and she left me spellbound each time! Watching her perform pushes me to step outside my comfort zone and take risks. I can’t wait to see her perform again and witness her brilliance!

What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage / the curtain goes up?

I am a yoga and tai chi student of 7 years, and the breathing and stability of my balance has been total colored chakra balance in my life, as has been prayer and meditation.

Nine opens May 17th and runs through June 2nd at Connecticut Theatre Company. Tickets on sale now!
