Spotlight On: Kathryn Lewis

 

Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into our talented cast and crew of The Drowsy Chaperone. Get to know Kathryn Lewis who is a member of our Ensemble!

 

 

 

Introduce Yourself to Our Audience:

Hello!  I’m Kathryn Lewis.  In this show I’m in the ensemble and I’m also costuming it!  This is my 7th show with CTC, but my first time on stage!  

 

What is challenging about bringing this script to life?

My biggest challenge is of course the costumes!  I LOVE 1920s style, which why I wanted to do this, but there are very specific looks needed.  It’s always a challenge finding what I see in my head and staying in budget.  Plus, there are a lot of costumes including some quick changes so I’ve got to keep the demands of the show in mind. 

 

Why did you want to be involved in this production?

I’ve been listening to the soundtrack to this show since I was in high school, and I love how it spoofs the Golden Age of musicals.  As someone who has done a bunch of those shows, it’s really fun for me to play into that nostalgia.  I also stage managed the past two shows, and this was the perfect chance to get back on stage for a fun and funny show I love so much.

 

Who is the show is most like their character?

I’d say Seth is most like Man in Chair.  They are always witty and ready with a joke or quip.  They love theater but know how to have fun with it.

 

What’s going to surprise people about this show?

How much fun we all have with each other!  This is one of the best casts I’ve been a part of, and I really think that’s going to come through on stage with how we interact.  Also the amount of tap dancing. 

 

What will the audience be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?

They’ll be thinking about how we hold shows and experiences close and how they’re important to us, and also singing a song to help them stumble along.
